'A rose by any other name': Valentine's Day shopping beyond the flowers

Rose themed gifts to surprise your loved one with

Valentine's Day is synonymous with roses. They go hand in hand like Easter and eggs, Christmas and crackers, and it's hard to imagine one without the other. This isn't to say, though, that you have to adhere to tradition come February 14th. There are plenty of ways to nod to the floral convention without spending your hard earned money on something so ephemeral. The easiest way to do this? Rose themed gifts. Think scented candles, bubble baths and perfumes, alongside chutneys, chocolates and rosé champagne. For the ultimate declaration of love, why not gather all of those things together in a handsome hamper?

Home scents

Pamper your loved one with a charming rose scented delight. Opt for Santa Maria Novella's bath gel, or their rose water if they're into long baths and skincare routines. Otherwise, Diptyque's ‘Roses’ candle is the perfect pick, floating a fragrant rose scent through the room each and every time you light it.

Home accessories

If the object of your desire has been hankering after a lovely new home accessory or two, why not use Valentine's as an opportunity to treat them to it. Be it a lovely quilt, paperweight, bedding set or plate, as long as it's got a rose on it you're on theme.

Sweet treats

For the foodie, why not gift some rose flavoured Turkish delight or chocolates? They're a relatively inexpensive way to nod to the day if you're feeling low-key, or a lovely way to finish a big celebratory meal. No matter whether they are a tea and biscuits person or a champagne and truffles connoisseur, there's a rose-flavoured food for everyone. Fortnum's has a wonderful selection of rose themed confectionery - you could even build your own wicker hamper for a loved one.

Decorations

You can't go wrong with a pretty decoration, especially not when it's rose themed. Crochet and paper flowers are a charming way to say ‘I love you’ in a more permanent way than real blooms. For a finishing touch, why not top off your gift with an exquisitely illustrated card or thoughtful gift tag (which could be reused as a decoration in the home post-gift giving!).
