For many Asian cultures, Lunar New Year is the most important celebration of the year. Traditions vary between countries, but often include visiting family and friends, giving gifts, costumed parades, and fireworks. Celebrations conclude with a lantern festival on the 15th day after the New Year, which makes for a colourful and riotous occasion.
The date upon which Lunar New Year falls changes each year, due to it being part of the traditional Chinese calendar, which uses both the moon's phases and the Earth's orbit around the sun to determine its dates. Every year is assigned one of twelve different animals in the Chinese Zodiac; last year was the dragon, next year will be the horse, but 2025 is the Year of the Snake. In celebration, we've curated an eclectic selection of homeware decorated with snakes. From House of Hackney's sinuous brass furnishings, to sumptuous rugs adorned with serpent motifs, discover our favourites below.
