The best hotels in Marrakech right now
When tourists think of Marrakech, quintessential images of dazzling souks, colourful leather babouches and richly spiced tagines may spring to mind. More recently, however, a flurry of new openings have also added a contemporary creative dynamic to the ancient city; chic boutiques shops, such as Moro and Al Nour Textiles, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Al Maaden have all opened over the last few years. The city’s hotel scene has had a design-focused makeover to suit, with old-glamour palatial hotels undergoing extensive renovation projects and boutique riads opening up in the ancient Medina. Here are some of our favourite spots to book in Marrakech.
What’s the best part of Marrakech to stay in?
Most visitors to Marrakech will spend a large part of their time in the city’s ancient Medina - and rightly so. Stocked full iconic landmarks like the Jemma el-Fna Square and the Koutoubia Mosque, alongside authentic street food spots and more blatant tourist traps, the market certainly has a lot to offer. For those ready to dive straight into the action, a myriad of riads are available in the centre of the Medina. If you are looking for a slightly more peaceful option, however, the quieter Medina neighbourhood of Riad Zitoun Jdid or upscale Hivernage district might be better suited. Some more secluded options also lay on the outskirts of the city at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, including the Selman Marrakech and the more recently opened Farasha Farmhouse.
